We are Along Came A Hop, a passionate group dedicated to promoting STEM education in underserved communities. Our mission is to empower young minds in the Caribbean and Central America by providing them with essential STEM supplies and resources to enhance their learning experience.
As of today, the Caribbean and Central/Latin America are behind the globe by more than 10 years in science-technology-engineering-mathematics (STEM) and STEM-related career disciplines.
These communities are hit yearly by devastating hurricanes and local funding goes directly to emergency resources—not STEM.
Our STEM kits are crafted in partnership with local K-12 classrooms, Science Departments of multiple 4-year public universities within Alabama, and provide resources for transition classrooms and displaced students. Teachers are able to quickly build lesson plans while schools are being rebuilt, scholarships for books and materials, and finally we also provide professional business attire for the many young people who must choose to seek work due to the financial inability to afford an education.
Along Came A Hop continues to honor our motto of "STEAM and Individual Talent In-Between".

Hello! Hola! Welcome to AlongCameAHop!! I'm Heather, the founder of our organization and wanted to share a bit about who we are. Founded in 2020 as a grassroots initiative to close the gender and racial gaps in STEM we are doing important work while operating in The Rocket City of the South - Huntsville, Alabama. We are a Woman and Minority/Trinidad American led organization with a dedicated background in youth STEM/Education, Agriculture Bio-Technology, and Research/ Development Programs. We are driven to change by the distinct diversity and gender gaps both in the STEM labor force and graduate populations.

Hello, I am Paul McMurtray, our fundraising initiative lead and Chief of Operations. At Along Came A Hop, we believe that the future of innovation depends on diversity and inclusivity. Our mission is to provide minority youth with the resources, opportunities, and support they need to thrive in STEM fields—science, technology, engineering, and math.
Unfortunately, minority communities are underrepresented in these fields, creating barriers to equal opportunity and limiting the diversity of voices in the future of science and technology. Through strategic fundraising, we at Along Came A Hop aim to close this gap by offering hands-on learning experiences, mentorship from professionals, and access to the tools and resources necessary for success.

We partner with a wide range of STEM focused organizations and businesses in the community to provide repurposed, comprehensive STEM curriculums and K-12 learning kits. We take into account the social and economic needs of our partnering countries by supporting youth based services that are unique to the learning conditions of each partnering country. Our combined experiences as both educators, faculty, and grant panelists have further strengthened the strategic vision to provide a Hop of opportunity in the STEM fields to underrepresented young people on a global scale. We proudly serve marginalized youth in the United States with a special emphasis on those currently living in the Caribbean, Central America, and Latin American countries. Here’s how we get them involved!
One of our partners at the UAH Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative (AMSTI) regional site is working with us once again to repurpose previous edition Student Guides, Teacher Guides, and STEM kits such as electrical conductors, biology kits, and more! This time our task is to repurpose a WAREHOUSE of STEM kits in near-perfect condition and ship them to our partnering countries within the Caribbean and Central America. We are seeking DONATIONS to help us cover the immense transportation costs that consist of Truck to Port (Huntsville, Alabama to Texas), Barge to Island, and Duty Taxes.
